'Black Hole Hums B-Flat'
Barbican London 2011
'Black Hole Hums B-Flat' is an ongoing work, initially performed as part of 'Radio Show' at Space, London. The starting point is the life and work of Delia Derbyshire, the BBC Radiophonic workshop sound pioneer best known as the creator of the theme tune to Dr Who. Responding to Derbyshire's influential approach to audio, the work explores sound, time, space and the creative process. The performance involves a reading of fragments of texts culled from the internet, JG Ballard and Kurt Vonnegut JR, and includes quotations from and about Derbyshire along with artists statements about their creative processes that are repeated, layered and stuck together metaphorically and literally (with Sellotape), following Derbyshire's low tech and experimental working methods.
